Beeswax is a wax formed by the secretion of honey bee glands to build bee nests (cells that will hold the honey). Beeswax is obtained and cleaned by physical methods.

Composition & description

Beeswax is composed of esters, fatty acids, hydrocarbons and alcohol.

Properties

Texturizing agent, skin protector, emollient, antimicrobialIn
cosmetics, beeswax is mainly used to thicken and stabilize emulsions, balms and creams. Its film-forming properties help protect the skin and prevent it from drying out. It makes the skin soft and supple (emollient). It is suitable for all skin types but is particularly indicated for dry and very dry skin.

misconceptions... the whiteness of wax

The idea that coloured wax contains more impurities than white wax is false. If when the bees produce the wax, it is white or even transparent or crystalline, it becomes coloured as the bees add pollen and propolis to it.the wax in the cell lids has a lighter colour because it is "younger": the bees place this lid on the cell to close it when it is full. The diet and the species of bees also influence the colour of the wax, which will vary from pale yellow to ochre yellow. Filtration and decolourisation are two different things.
What is true is that a dark wax (brown) can be a sign that it contains impurities.
To bleach wax, manufacturers use lightening processes by chemical treatment. The aim is to extract the natural pigments present in the composition of the wax, using dichromate, potassium permanganate, peroxides... This process is harmful to the environment and alters the qualities of the wax.
However, it is possible to bleach the wax naturally by exposing it to the sun, but this takes time and... the longer it takes, the less profitable it is
