Composition & description

Glycerin is a natural constituent of triglycerides. It is obtained as a secondary compound during saponification (soap making). Glycerin can be of synthetic origin (synthetically produced from petroleum), of animal origin (if animal fats are used for saponification) or of vegetable origin (if vegetable fats/ oils are used). Whatever its origin (synthetic, animal, vegetable, organic, non-organic), its INCI name is the same(glycerin), as the manufacturer is not obliged to specify its origin. Glycerin is essentially composed of glycerol. The glycerin we use has a glycerol content of 99.8% and is produced from organically grown flax.

Glycerin is an ingredient that attracts and retains moisture. It is highly hygroscopic, soluble in water, clear, colourless, viscous, odourless and sweet.
The soap industry is a major supplier of glycerine. Industrialists practice hot saponification and wash the soap paste to recover the glycerin and prevent the soap paste from hardening too quickly. This process allows the soap paste to be processed in machines that would otherwise clog or block. The recovered glycerin is sold to the cosmetics industry as a moisturizing agent.

Note: the glycerin in all our soaps is produced naturally through saponification. There is no added glycerin in our soaps)

Properties

Hygroscopic, humectant,
emollientGlycerin improves the skin's appearance, making it supple and smooth. Its affinity with water (hygroscopicity) enables it to attract and retain water. It thus helps to slow down the skin's natural dehydration process. Non-comedogenic, it is a versatile ingredient that is very well tolerated by different skin types. Slightly emulsifying, it provides a soft and creamy touch. It is found in many face and body products. It is also very interesting in dry or frizzy hair care.
