Composition & description
This oil is extracted from the seeds of the "Macadamia" or "Quensland walnut", a plant native to Australia, New Caledonia and Indonesia but now cultivated throughout the southern hemisphere and especially in Kenya. Its name comes from the botanist (M. Macadam) who discovered it.
It is an oil very rich in Omega 9 (more than 50%) and has the particularity of containing more than 20% of mono-unsaturated fatty acid "palmitoleic" (omega 7) which protects the lipidic cell membranes and makes this oil very moisturizing and protective. It also contains about 10% of saturated fatty acids (palmitic and stearic acid). Its composition is very similar to that of human sebum. It is yellow in colour and has a discreet odour reminiscent of nuts.
It can be used in cosmetics as well as in food.
People allergic to nuts should avoid this oil.
