Composition & description

Calendula or marigold is a very common flower in our gardens. Its name Calendula derives from a Latin word meaning "little clock", nickname related to the particularity that this flower has to close when there is no sun. It is rarely found in the wild. Medicine, cooking, cosmetics, perfumery: its uses are multiple and go back to antiquity. In medicine, it is used in the composition of ointments to soothe skin irritations, eczema, sunburn or insect bites. In cooking, it is a condiment used to season stews and casseroles or as a colouring agent (replacing saffron)... Calendula is used in various forms, the most common of which are the infusion, the mother tincture and the macerate (it is this last form that we use in our care products).
The flower contains saponosides, carotenoids, flavonoids, mucilage, sterols, salicylic acid and 0.2 to 0.3% essential oil.
Calendula should not be confused with Tagetes, which is toxic.
